Simeon Smith letter, 1801 Sept. 24.

Letter addressed to Citizen Smith, commander of the detachment of militia, in New London, dated at Hartford, 2nd Vendé́́miare, 9th year of the French Republic (Sept. 24, 1801), thanking him for his good care and kindness while escorting a troop of French soldiers to the jail in Hartford, Conn., from New London, with the signature of each soldier; together with a contemporary broad translation.
